1985 was notable for two reasons: Being the year in which I arrived into the world, and being the best year for film. Ever.

Not since the birth of cinema has one year packed in so many classic films. Large parts of my childhood were spent in the film world of 1985, watching the same movies over and over again.

Here are just some of the reasons why the 1985 rocked for film.

Jumanji fans can rest easy after Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson revealed that a proposed reboot of the classic adventure movie will in fact be a sequel.

Previous reports claimed that Johnson would team up with in-demand funnyman Kevin Hart for a reboot of the 1996 original – which starred Robin Williams as Alan Parrish, a man trapped inside a mythic board game for 26 years.

But he’s now confirmed that this isn’t the case, and says that the new film will instead… Read the full story

There’s no end to JK’s talents (Picture: Joel Ryan/Invision/AP, File)

She might be one of the most popular authors on Earth, but it seems like JK Rowling is a pretty damn talented illustrator too.

Pottermore has just released a series of sketches that JK etched in the 1990’s prior to the release of Harry Potter, and they’re pretty insightful in providing us with an early look into the characters that would eventually become immortalised within the annals of fiction.

One of the first revealing photos is a sketch of the whole gang, complete with a character called ‘Gary’ who would eventually become Dean Thomas.

Back in 2002, Halle Berry proved that she’s a damn fine actress when she became the first African American woman to win the Best Actress gong for her stunning turn in Monster’s Ball.

But she’s now proven it again through the unlikeliest of means – a dramatic reading of Oops I Did It Again.

The whole thing is brilliantly hilarious, as Halle transforms a bonafide pop classic into something that resembles an emotional monologue from a stirring emotional drama.

‘I played with your heart’, Halle cries with all the conviction of a cheating partner.

Most comics fans were delighted with every scrap of screen time Harley Quinn and the Joker shared in Suicide Squad.

The movie portrayed the evil couple as a strong team, two baddies who love each other equally, despite their rather base instincts.

However, a production still – now published uncropped for the first time – has stirred up controversy as it appears to show the Joker acting as an ‘abuser’ of Margot Robbie’s… Read the full story

Given the timeless nature of the movie adaptation of Roald Dahl’s Matilda, it can be a bit of a bombshell to remember that the child stars have grown up quite a lot since 1996 – and the fact that Kiama Davael, who played Matilda’s BFF Lavender is now 30 has left us feeling ancient.

Kiama was just 10 when she played the sassy classmate who helped Mara Wilson’s character stand up to Miss Trunchbull but, as it has a habit of doing so, time has moved on and the actress recently celebrated her 30th birthday.

And while we can still see plenty of Lavender in Kiama, she has inevitably changed a… Read the full story

The official lists of the highest-paid actors and actresses of 2016 have been revealed — and the difference between the two is astounding.

Forbes‘ findings serve as conclusive proof that the movie business still has a major gender pay gap problem, a point argued by various top actors like Jennifer Lawrence and Patricia Arquette among others.

While actress number ten in the top female list, Deepika Padukone, earned £7,570,000, number 20 in the equivalent male list Harrison Ford was still earning way more — £11,360,000, to be precise. Oh, and the age gap between them is 44 years.
