Veteran Studio Ghibli animator Makiko Futaki, who worked on the Oscar-winning Spirited Away, has died aged 57.
The prestigious animator who worked on nearly every major Studio Ghibli animation, including their final feature When Marnie Was There, died on May 13 in a Tokyo hospital from an unspecified illness.
Futaki worked for the studio for three decades, and collaborated with notorious Japanese director Hayao Miyazaki on all of his feature films, including My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke, which are often touted as the studio’s greatest works.
