Bernardo Bertolucci slams Last Tango In Paris ‘butter’ scene anger as ‘ridiculous misunderstanding’

Italian director Bernardo Bertolucci says backlash on the controversial butter rape scene in 1972 erotic drama Last Tango In Paris is a ‘ridiculous misunderstanding’.

In a statement published on Monday in Italian, the 76-year-old said Marlon Brando’s use of a stick of butter in the scene with Maria Schneider was the only improvised element not already in the script, reports Variety.
