Hunger Games star Amandla Stenberg has given a powerful explanation of why the appropriation of black culture is a problem in the music industry.
In a video called Don’t Cash Crop on My Cornrows, created for her high school history class with classmate Quinn Masterson, she gives a short history of cultural appropriation focusing mainly on black hair and rap music.
From Eminem rapping and Miley Cyrus twerking to Katy Perry wearing cornrows in her hair, Amandla mentions acts who have all profited from black culture in the video which has since been uploaded to Tumblr.
