George Lucas has apologised for his comment referring to Disney as ‘white slavers’.

In an interview with Charlie Rose, Lucas talked about how much he loved the Star Wars films.

Referring to them as his ‘kids’, he said selling the franchise to Disney was like selling ‘them to the white slavers that take these things, and…’

He didn’t finish the sentence, but the response to his remark has prompted the director the apologise, explaining that he ‘misspoke’.

In a statement, published by The Hollywood Reporter, Lucas said: ‘I misspoke and used a very inappropriate analogy and for that I apologise.
