We knew her as Hermione Granger from the moment that she first introduced herself to a certain boy wizard during that first fateful trip on the Hogwarts Express.
But J.K. Rowling wasn’t always intending for that name to be.
Instead, she was originally considering naming her Hermione Puckle – which seems oh so wrong in contrast to the Granger that we’re now acquainted with.
Eventually, Rowling is said to have decided that ‘Puckle’ didn’t suit her, and thus Hermione Granger was born.
But her first name has some pretty appropriate rooting – as she shares it with a character of the same name from Shakespeare’s A Winter’s Tale who remains strong and resolute when she’s accused of wrongdoing.
Yep, that sounds like Hermione.
