Marvel might have finally secured themselves a writer for the standalone Black Panther film.
According to The Wrap, Joe Robert Cole is being lined up to pen the script for the superhero film centred on T’Challa, Marvel’s first major black hero from the fictional African nation of Wakanda.
Cole is from the studios in-house writing program, and as an African-American filmmaker, the hiring of him for the film would show that the Disney are making an effort to diversify the writing and directing teams within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Not that that should diminish Cole’s talents, but the fact is (so far) there hasn’t been a non-white director or writer from any of the films produced by Marvel Studios.
