Cinematographer Andrew Lesnie, who won an Oscar for his work on Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King, has died aged 59.

News of the Sydney native’s passing was confirmed by the Australian Cinematographers Association, who said that Lesnie had suffered a heart attack.

The society added that his family would make an official statement in due course.

Lesnie, who began his film career in 1978 as a camera assistant on cult Australian thriller Patrick, was well-known for his collaborations with Peter Jackson.
